I was never into Soulfly. I didn't have any of their albums and only knew Soulfly songs from the countless compliation albums that Roadrunner have been churning out over the years. I much prefer Sepulturea, especially during Arise and Chaos AD. I found Soulfly too "nu-metal" to my liking.
Totally different case with Prophecy.
This is simply amazing! The Max Power is so very brave, ignoring what the pure metallist would say about such a diverse album. Yes, diverse is the key here. While the hardcore death/thrash metal fans won't be disappointed by the first half of the album, the second half is just totally awesome and daring. Flamenco guitar? Check! Reggae? Check! New Age? Check! And all in one song, with thrash/death metal element intact!! Amazing.
And the last song, Soulfly IV is quite interesting too. Barbershop chanson, anyone?Granted, it's not metal. But being a music fan and not just a narrow-minded metalhead, I say I love it.
I always thought System Of A Down made a diverse album in Toxicity but Prophecy clearly blows SOAD.
May The Max Power continue to explore.
